1) When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer ?
My writing actually started in the form of online comments
in some non-political articles published in Times of India. There used to be a
Agree, Disagree, Recommend and an Offensive buttons for each comment. Quite
often I was thrilled to see my comment being liked by so many people.
Sometimes, on few occasions, my comments were among the top, most engaging,
most agreed ones. That was for the first time I started to write and share my
views. But the real fun began with the emergence of social media, particularly
Facebook. But unlike writing comments on online articles Facebook was
different, there's just too much transparency. I was quite apprehensive at the
beginning and kept my activities limited to Likes and Comments. But it was
quite tempting when your comment is liked by many, and also people share their
opinion about the comment. Gradually I became more interactive and grew in
confidence. Soon I started publishing my own posts on FB. I usually wrote about
some funny incidents, particularly college days ones. Then I started writing
about our college time stories on our official FB college group. Gradually it
became a part of life. Soon I started my own personal blog titled
"Flashbacks" where I write about some unforgettable moments. After
blogging for a year my readers motivated me to write a book. That was the time
I decided and was determined to write my first novel. But writing book is a
different ball game altogether. It needs lot of dedication and free time. But
once started I never turned back and kept going.
2) How long does it take you to write a book ?
It took me almost a year to complete the book, and then
another 3 to 4 months editing work. I would like to thank my school friend
Arundhati Hazarika for helping me with the editing work.
3) What is your work schedule when you are writing ?
Writing is just a passion for me. I have a corporate day job
as a IT professional. While writing my work schedule is a bit hectic. I usually
keep my writing stuffs for the weekends.
4) What would you say is your interesting writing quirk ?
I usually write after midnight when both my wife and
daughter are asleep. I get involved with the characters I create, I talk to
them. Anything interesting that comes to my mind, I quickly pen it down, just
like rough notes. When I have sufficient content to be written for the night, I
prepare myself a lemon tea. While sipping my tea, looking at my rough notes, I
continue typing my laptop keys.
5) Where do you get your information or ideas for your books
?
I usually take ideas from day to day life, and then my
imagination. Imagination plays a very important role while writing fiction
books. Travelling helped me a lot in that aspect. Travelling by bus or a train,
look outside the window. It helped me to get involved with the fictitious
characters I want to create.
6) What do you like to do when you're not writing ?
When I’m not writing I like to watch movies, spend time with
my family. I like to play football on the weekends. And yes, I like to travel a
lot.
7) Tell us something about your novel/book ?
My book titled, “Story of Tublu” is a Contemporary Fiction
novel, published by LiFi Publications Pvt Ltd. The book has its share of drama,
that entertains; humor, that makes one reminisce; love, friendship and emotions
that defines the amazing journey that is, life. The story begins in the late
Eighties, in a small picturesque town of Assam. The story is about a small
family, about Tublu and Maina. Right from his childhood, Tublu had special
feelings for Maina. With time, his feelings for her only grow stronger. The
novel depicts Tublu’s one sided love, how his silent crush turns into an
obsession. The first half of the book is fun, about the intriguing adolescence
and some college/hostel humors. Later, the story shifts gear and gets more and
more mature. The novel is about friendship, love, struggle and hope. Well, it’s
all about the amazing journey of life.
And,
8) What one of the most surprising thing you learned in
creating your books ?
Writing a book, particularly fiction novel is an amazing
experience. There’s lot of learning, I learned a lot in creating my book. I
learned how to get involved with the characters, how to think like them. I
learned about the publication industry, book distribution industry and various
digital marketing. I came in contact with lot of authors. One thing I learned
is becoming fulltime author is not that easy. I mean authors don’t earn that
much in India. I’ve noticed that about 90% of authors in India write only for
passion. It’s not possible for them to make writing as their livelihood. In
order to become best seller, of course is very important, but promotion and
marketing is more important.
